Objectives

The project has three main objectives: (1) to have a better understanding of language brokering by young people across Europe, (2) to propose a set of guidelines for child and young language brokering in Europe, (3) to design activities related to language brokering to be included in high schools’ curricula.

These general objectives will lead to the following specific objectives:

  1. To empower children and teenagers in the new society through the revaluation of heritage languages;
  2. To promote linguistic and cultural diversity at high schools through examples of good practices of public service interpreting;
  3. To raise awareness of the risks of this practice beyond communication to conduct minor bureaucratic tasks;
  4. To raise awareness among young people of the value and importance of multilingualism in Europe nowadays;
  5. To disseminate new approaches to involve students with less possibilities (due to cultural differences) in classroom activities;
  6. To introduce the interpreting profession and its various modalities among young students who already have a high level of competency in two or more languages, and among their parents and supervisors;
  7. To create flexible open educational resources that can be used in different learning environments.
  8. To improve social cohesion of teenagers with an immigrant background.
