Entry requirements

 

Ideal student profile

You should ideally have prior training in translation and interpreting and a strong grasp of languages. According to the specialisation you choose, you require specific knowledge in this field.

 

Admission

The requirements for admission are:

  • Four-year degree, three-year degree, advanced engineering/architecture degree or engineering/architecture diploma.
  • Students with four-year degrees in similar subjects to the master's degree may also be admitted (240 ECTS credits completed), as well as foreign students with three-year degrees.
  • Depending on the student's prior training, the coordinators of the master's degree may require that they take up to 60 ECTS credits in additional training courses.

 

Selection criteria

The selection criteria are:

For the specialisations in Translation and Intercultural Mediation:

  • Catalan and/or Spanish as your mother tongue (or level C2*).
  • Level C1* in one of the following working languages: English, French, German.
  • Theoretical and practical translation skills.
  • Skills in specific fields.

Interpreting:

  • Catalan and/or Spanish as your mother tongue or at an equivalent level. Level C1-C2* in English. Level C1-C2* in French or German.
  • Theoretical and practical interpreting skills.
  • Skills in specific fields.
  • Diagnosis test. In addition to the previous criteria, students must take a 45-minute diagnosis test before a committee to assess their translation and oral skills in their mother tongue, and their general culture. This test is only meant as a guide to students.

For the specialisation in Translation and Intercultural Studies:

  • Theoretical and practical translation and/or interpreting skills and level B2* of Spanish or Catalan.
  • Language skills and cultural knowledge.
  • English reading skills.

* Level of foreign language skills as indicated by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
