Admission

We detail here the specific admission requirements of our PhD Program (you can find the general admission requirements of the UAB in the next link). In order to proceed with the admission application, you must do it online in this link (if you are not a UAB student, you can obtain a user name at this link).

There are two ways to be accepted in our PhD program:

A. Complete the Master in Applied Research in Economics and Business (MAREB)

Those outstanding students completing the MAREB with an average grade of 7 or more can apply for admission to the PhD program, including in their application:

  1. A motivation letter indicating your interest in our PhD program including (i) why you wish to complete your thesis at the Department of Applied Economics; (ii) a brief outline (one page) of your proposed research; (iii) the professors of the Department you would like to work with (potential supervisors).
  2. Academic record of BA and Masters.
  3. Master and BA degrees' certificates.
  4. An acceptation letter by a supervisor

The academic board of the PhD program will decide on the applications taking into account the performance in the MAREB courses, the ability of the candidate to do a quality work automously (as shown by the master dissertation); and the availability of an appropriate supervisor for the proposed research.

B. Enrolment with a master in Economics from other academic institution

Only in very exceptional cases do we accept students coming with a master in Economics from other institution. In order to be accepted in our PhD program with a master in Economics from another institution, the master completion must be recent and the master must be well-known and well reputed. In this case, in order to be considered for admission, the candidate must deliver the following information to the Department of Applied Economics (d.econ.aplicada@uab.es):

  1. A motivation letter indicating the interest in our PhD program including (i) why you wish to complete your thesis at the Department of Applied Economics; (ii) a brief outline (one page) of your research proposal; (iii) the professors of the Department you would like to work with (you may check the webpage of the Department of Applied Economics and the infomation on Faculty members in this webpage).
  2. Academic record of BA and Masters.
  3. Master and BA degrees' certificates.
  4. A copy of the master dissertation.
  5. An acceptation letter by a supervisor
  6. Information of the master courses, including hours, content, assessment method, etc.
  7. Two reference letters by referees knowing your academic work.
  8. Your curriculum vitae.

The Academic board of the program will evaluate the application and give an answer in less than two weeks.

The accepted candidates must, in any case, take some subjects from our Master in Applied Research in Economics and Business. In short, they must take the second term (Module in Advanced Topics in Applied Economics and the master dissertation). These courses will not provide any title, but will help for a final decision on admission.
